Room 16 - 4th Class - Ms. King
Festive Season
We had such a wonderful time in the lead up to Christmas. We enjoyed lots of Christmas art, watched the Helix panto online and performed in the Christmas concert! The full concert can be viewed on the main page of the school website. We also made icing to decorate biscuits and gingerbread men which we enjoyed with some hot chocolate. The girls have truly earned a well deserved break after a very busy first term.
Merry Christmas.

World War 2 & Germany
4th class have been working really hard learning all about Germany in geography and World War 2 in history. The girls have gained so much knowledge since they started these topics. They now know all about the German flag, famous sites, traditions, foods, schools and so much more. They really enjoyed comparing Ireland to Germany. Room 16 recorded all of this new information in their German passports. The girls also loved learning all about World War 2. They explored numerous aspects of the war including the events that caused WW 2, the world leaders and the roles they played, rationing, evacuees, the blitz, propaganda and the allies vs the axis countries. Brilliant work girls, well done!

Science Updates With Room 16
We monitored our bread closely for a week. Our final observations showed that the control, hand sanitiser and clean hands slices had the least bacteria and mould growing on it. However, the chromebook and dirty surfaces slices were disgusting!! This showed us the importance of using soap and warm warm to wash our hands properly, wiping down surfaces and sanitising. We also recently learned about gravity and air resistance. We designed, created and tested parachutes in our pods.

Biodiversity Day by Maci Buckley
On the 12th of November it was biodiversity day. Biodiversity means all of the plants and animals in the world. To celebrate we wore something green. We also designed and painted posters with slogans for a competition. Each class were given an animal to research and write reports on. Ours was the native Irish owl. Then, we planted peas .. we can't wait to watch them grow. Finally, we took a quiz to test our knowledge on biodiversity. Our school is working really hard to get the biodiversity flag. Have a look at the photos below to see the great work that we did!

Science Week
The 8th - 15th of November 2020 was science week. We had so much fun in room 16 carrying out experiments in our pods. We practiced our scientific skills by predicting, experimenting, investigating and recording. We explored chromatography rainbows and made a bouncy egg. We are also in the process of conducting a bacteria growing experiment using bread. The results are a little slower on this experiment so we will keep you updated!

Spooky Season
We have been extremely busy in the run up to Halloween. We made clay pumpkin candle holders, wrote acrostic poems, created spider webs, explored the traditions of Dia De Los Muertos and baked cupcakes to finish learning about procedural writing. Enjoy the very well deserved break girls!

Autumn Has Arrived
We had great fun printing with leaves this week. We noticed that the leaves we collected were different colours, which we reflected using paint and other artwork. Every piece was so unique. What a creative bunch!

Rainbow Moments
We spent a lot of time this September sharing our Covid stories and rainbow moments. This helped us remember that although our time in lockdown was very difficult, there were also many positives. These included getting to spend more time with our family, using technology to stay connected to our friends and learning new skills. We made some rainbow art to represent these special moments.

We have been learning all about our local community. We used lots of different sources to research and gather information. For example, maps and the internet. Then, we worked together in our pods to create projects. They are all so creative and unique.
The girls in room 16 were busy on Friday the 25th of September. They had a workshop on 'zoom' with the Fighting Words team! They collaboratively wrote a story titled 'The Great Escape'. They even had their story professionally illustrated and published. You can check it out here: https://www.fightingwords.ie/stories/great-escape-3
