On behalf of the school community, I would like to welcome you to the website of St. Vincent's Girls' National School.
St. Vincent's is an all girls Catholic school under the Patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr. Diarmuid Martin. We pride ourselves in being an open, caring and welcoming school, where all children are cherished and encouraged at all times to reach their full potential. We provide an exciting and varied curriculum which motivates and enthuses pupils to be active participants in their learning. Working as a team, we embrace new methodologies and thinking and thus, have a highly motivated and skilled staff. We strive to ensure that our girls develop a strong sense of values which are underpinned by our Catholic ethos, and to develop skills and knowledge which will enable them to make informed decisions as they mature. End of Year PrizegivingJune 29th, 2017
Today we celebrated our final prizegiving of the current academic year here at St. Vincent's GNS. Students were honoured for their academic performance, behaviour, kindness and attendance throughout the whole school year. In addition to this, each class put on a wonderful performance to entertain our students and audiences. Bloomin' Wonderful!June 22nd, 2017
Summertime is well and truly in bloom and that means it's time to harvest the vegetables in our school garden. Mr. Creavin and his gardening team brought the two second classes out to get their hands dirty and dig up onions, scallions, potatoes and garlic. It was fantastic to see such fresh produce being created in our very own school garden. The girls even got their hands on some wriggly friends and didn't even squirm! Meanwhile some of the girls from first class had a fantastic time smelling and observing the beautiful flowers in bloom in our school yard also. Well done and special thanks to Mr. Creavin and his gardening team. |
Sports Day 2017

Today at St. Vincent's GNS we held our annual Sports Day. The day was packed with fun-filled activities including, dance, yoga, races, obstacle courses, orienteering, parachutes and of course bouncing on the bouncy castle. The ice-cream van even made an appearance and all the staff and students got to enjoy an ice-cream in the sun. Well done to all the students for being great sports and making the most of the day. Many thanks to the parents for coming in and supporting. Special thanks also to all staff involved in making the day a success.

Clowning AroundJune 16th, 2017
Today the 5th Class students were in for a special treat as they received their prize for the class with the best attendance throughout the current school year. Circus experts, Maria and Angelica came in to teach the girls some circus tricks. They got to spin plates on sticks, cycle mini bicycles, hula hoop and much more. This was followed by a pizza party and there wasn't a crumb left to spare. Well done girls on such fantastic attendance.Here's to keeping it up next year! |
Discover Primary Science & Maths Award June 2017
All of the hard work from our students and staff in our efforts to achieve a Discover Primary Science & Maths Award for the second year in a row has paid off! We were delighted to be informed today that our school satisfied the requirements of the Science Foundation Ireland and have been awarded the accolade once again. Pine Forest AdventuresJune 8th, 2017
Today the two first classes and second classes along with their teachers went to Pine Forest in Glencullen, Dublin 18. The girls had a fantastic day of art activities and forest walk as they admired the wonderful scenery all around them. Well done girls. |
Causey Farm Fun!June 7th, 2017
Today was the kick-off of our school tour season. The students and teachers from third and fourth class ventured to Causey Farm in Co. Meath. The weather didn't stop the girls from enjoying themselves and they had a fantastically messy time. Well done girls for enjoying the trip and making the most of it. |
Newbridge FarmJune 8th, 2017
A fantastic time was had today by the classes of Junior and Senior Infants as they visited Newbridge farm for their school tour. The girls had so much fun looking at and petting all of the different animals on the farm. For many, it was a very special experience as it was their first time to see the animals. Well done girls! |

Confirmation Day at St. Vincent's GNS

Today was a very special day for the students of Sixth Class as they made their Confirmation in St. Agatha's Church. All of the hard work and preparations from the Confirmation students and the school choir paid off as many members of our school community were treated to a wonderful ceremony full of prayer and music. Congratulations girls, and special thanks to Mary, Vera, Mr. Dunne, the Trinity music students, Ms. Fanning, Ms. Browne and all staff involved for their role in organising the ceremony.

Today members of our school Athletics Club made the journey over to Morton Stadium in Santry for the Santry Games. After weeks of training our students were delighted to finally take to the track and compete with other students from all over Dublin. The weather was fantastic and the atmosphere was equally brilliant. Well done to all the students involved and special thanks to Mr. Costello, Ms. Lawlor and Ms. Browne for their roles in organising the event.

Safe Cross Code Dance Competition

Our school has been shortlisted as one of just eight finalists in the Safe Cross Code Dance Competition in association with the Road Safety Authority Ireland. The video was created by Second Class, Room 15 and they are delighted to move forward to the next stage of the competition. In order to win, and win our school 30 7 inch electronic tablets, we need as much support from the school community as possible. The winning video will be that with the most views on YouTube by June 5th. What we are asking of everyone is to click in to the video as many times as possible between now and then. Many thanks and happy watching!

Today we were delighted to welcome our past pupil Kelly Harrington back to our school. Kelly came in to show all of us the belts and medals that she won at the Nicolae Linca Golden Belt Multi-Nations competition in Romania last March. Glorious GardenersMay 18th, 2017
Mrs. Wall's 1st Class proved to be excellent gardeners yesterday as they became Mr. Creavin's Junior Assistants in the school garden. The class carefully placed black beans in our key-hole bed and used peat moss too. Well done girls! Our school also now has a compost system in place in the school. It was made very simply using recycled materials such as pallets and steaks. Thank you to all of the parents for their help and to Mr. Dunne as well. Europe Day 2017 at St. Vincent's GNSMay 9th, 2017
Today at St. Vincent's GNS we celebrated everything about Europe. As part of this each class participated in the Blue Start project and chose a European country to study. Representatives from each class then presented in our EU showcase in the hall. As well as this we had an international food tasting event which proved to be a great success. Many thanks go to the parents who went to great efforts in preparing different cuisines for the students to sample. We had Romanian, Mauritian, Indian, Polish, Kenyan, Scottish and Irish food just to name a few. Many thanks to our special guest on the day, Maureen O'Sullivan TD, who took time out of her hectic schedule to visit the school. Well done to all involved and a special thanks to Mr. Creavin, our HSCL Teacher for his role in organising the project and event. |

Today the day finally came for our girls from second class to receive their First Holy Communion. The ceremony took place in St. Agatha's Church and went excellently. The girls and boys from O'Connell's BNS were fantastic and did themselves very proud. Special thanks to Mary, Vera, Mr. Dunne, Mrs. Gallagher, Mr. Costello and everyone else involved in the preparations for the day. We would like to remind everyone that family Mass takes place in St. Agatha's Church every Sunday at 10:30am and 12 noon.

SFI Discover Science & Maths Award Showcase 2017May 2017
Following our success last year in obtaining a Discover Primary Science and Maths Award, we decided to apply again this year. The students and staff have been working hard over the past number of months at becoming budding scientists. We have engaged in some fantastic science experiments integrating maths, engineering and technology into the mix. It was a fantastic experience and we have all learned so much. One Book, One CommunityMarch 30th, 2017
The students from 6th Class in St. Vincent's GNS attended the closing ceremony of this years One Book, One Community initiative in O'Connell's Secondary School. This years book was titled Wonder. It is a story about a boy named Auggie who overcomes difficulties in his life due to his disability. 6th class really enjoyed the book. Congratulations to Dunah who received the prize of Best Alternative Book Cover, Cassandra who won the Best Book Report prize and to Sophie Gannon who delivered a beautiful performance of Lost Boy in front of 300 people. Green Fingers with the Green Schools TeamMarch 30th, 2017
Today the Green School Committee got extremely busy as they rolled up their sleeves and weeded the garden plots, pulled up the grass and planted potatoes. We are delighted that we now have radishes, onions, garlic, peas and potatoes growing in our school garden. Parents are welcome to come along to our gardening club every Thursday from 9am - 11am. Blue Star Programme Launch

Today students from 3rd-6th class visited the Government Buildings for the launch of the Blue Star Programme 2016/17. The girls got to meet with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD, Minister Charlie Flanagan TD, Minister Dara Murphy TD and the six Ambassadors of the Treaty of Rome. Each girl represented the school with great distinction and should be very proud of themselves. Mr. Creavin and Ms. O'Toole would like to thank the children's families for ensuring that their daughters were in school at 07:45am. Thank You!

World Book Day

Today characters like the cat in the hat, Hermione Granger, Elsa, Cinderella and Wednesday Adams roamed the hallways of St. Vincent's GNS for World Book Day. Huge efforts were made by our students as they dressed up as their favourite book characters for the special day. As well as this, the children got to purchase books as part of the 'Bring a Book, Buy a Book' initiative in aid of St. Michael's House. Well done to the girls for their fantastic efforts. The Pancake Princess...February 28th, 2017
The students of St. Vincent's GNS were in for a treat today as the aroma of fresh pancakes took over the school. Mary and Christina were on hand to organise delicious pancakes as a treat for all of the girls this Pancake Tuesday. All agreed it was a lovely treat to have before we all make our Lenten promises tomorrow. Many thanks to Vera and Glanmore Food's also for their role in organising the pancakes. |
Friendship Concert 2017February 17th, 2017
Today we celebrated the end of our friendship week with our annual friendship concert. The junior and senior classes paired up creating new bonds and friendships between the pupils in our schools. Together then, each pair prepared fantastic songs and dances surrounding the theme of friendship to perform for the whole school. Well done to all involved in an amazing show. We had a super week in school and we remind all girls that every week is friendship week here at St. Vincent's GNS and to keep up the great work! Please be reminded that our school will close today for mid-term for one week. We hope everyone has a peaceful and safe break and we look forward to returning on Monday, February 27th. |
Bunny Run Training - 3k in ClontarfFebruary 17th, 2017
As part of their preparation for their 5K Bunny Run before the Easter break, the 5th and 6th class students from St. Vincent's GNS along with their teachers and other members of staff, headed to Clontarf today to participate in a 3 kilometre run. The training the girls have been doing in the build up towards today was evident as they all successfully completed the run. The progress the students have made since September is fantastic and we can't wait to see how much more amazing they will be when the time comes to complete the 5k in April. Well done girls, and keep up the admirable work! |
Teddy Bear Hospital

The junior classes of St. Vincent's GNS were treated to an extra special experience today in St. Agatha's Hall across from our school. UCD medicine students set up a very unique teddy bear hospital in which each of our students could bring their own teddy bears for a medical examination. Great fun was had by all as we learned all about the different tests and routines that happen in a hospital as well as how to have a healthy lifestyle. Many thanks to UCD students and to Mr. Courtney from St. Vincent's BNS for his role in organising the visit.

Friendship Week 2017February 13th, 2017
This week at St. Vincent's GNS, we are celebrating everything about friendship. We are making extra efforts to be kind to one another and to make new friends this week in school. We look forward to completing our Friendship Week Challenge set out by Ms. Rice and our Student Council which includes many fun activities and a fantastic friendship concert this Friday. Today the staff and students of St. Vincent's GNS added even more exercise to their day by participating in Operation Transformation's 10@!0. Each class added an extra 10 minutes of exercise to their day at 10am through dance, athletics, games and yoga! All of the school then made their way to the hall for a disco and even an attempt at creating our very own mannequin challenge. Well done to all involved. |
Sam Maguire Comes to North William Street

Today the staff and pupils of St. Vincent's GNS were treated to a visit from Dublin football player, Davie Byrne. Davie and his teammates won the All-Ireland Football final last October to obtain the Sam Maguire Cup. He brought the cup along with him today for all school members to see. As well as this he gave a talk to our students and answered some excellent questions for us too. Thanks a million to David for coming in and to Miss Fanning for her role in organising the visit.

Here at St. Vincent's GNS, we are making extra efforts to get extra active during the school day. We are participating in Operation Transformation's 10@10 Active School Initiative and incorporating an extra 10 minutes of exercise into our school day. Members of the school community were treated to a fantastic festive spectacle from all the students of St.Vincent's GNS today. There was an array of talent on display from intricate dance routines, to angelic singing, to oscar worthy acting, to noble Christmas messages, to fantastic ukelele playing. Well done to all of the staff and students for all of the hard work they put in to such an excellent show. A Festive Sing-a-long with the Garda BandDecember 15th, 2016
Today the students and staff of St. Vincent's GNS & St. Vincent's BNS were treated to an excellent sing-a-long performance from members of An Garda Síochána's Garda Band. The band sang some festive favourites which included Jingle Bells and Rudoph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Many thanks to the Garda Band for such a wonderful experience. |
From the North Pole to North William Street...December 15th, 2016
The junior classes of our school had a special visitor today all the way from the North Pole. Excitement filled the hallways of St. Vincent's as each class got to meet Santa for a chat and a sing-song. Thanks so much to Santa for bringing special presents to our students. Skipathon 2016October 18th, 2016
Fitness levels were put to the test today as we held our annual Skipathon here at St. Vincent's GNS. Congratulations to all of the girls and staff who participated; we kept the skipping going for the entire day in the Canal Yard. Competition levels became fierce then as the staff battled it out to see who could constantly skip for the longest period of time. Today we held our first school assembly of the new school year. It was such a joy to see the students being honoured for their efforts, behaviour and attendance throughout the month of September. Welcome Back!August 2016
It's hard to believe the holidays are over, but after two long months away from school it is now time to return. Just a reminder to all that the school will reopen on Wednesday, August 31st at 9am for all students from Senior Infants to Sixth Class. The day will finish at the usual times for these students. On the same day, Junior Infants will start school at 9:30am and finish at 11am. For the rest of the week Junior Infants will be in from 9:30am to 12pm. We welcome everyone back with open arms and hope that this academic year will bring peace, success, joy, friendship, education and happiness to all. |
